...and we both became static
“I’m right there, Ash, just put your hand on the screen and feel my warmth. I love you.” - Z3li4
“...And we both became static” is a narrative game that tells the story of two young ladies, Ash and Z3li4, who are in love, but are doomed, separated by a TV screen.
Ash is a traumatized “femcel” who lives in her room, shut off and away from the outside world, while Z3li4 is a being made of static and electricity who found shelter in Ash’s old cathodic television. The pair quickly fell in love, despite the obvious issue, the fact that they can’t actually be together physically.
Gameplay-wise, the player has to create a communication between both characters by picking a VHS to send a message to Z3li4, who then proceeds to answer in her own way. The combination of the two choices will produce something wonderful, sometimes you’ll simply get a message, and sometimes you’ll get a full-fledged ending, unlocking new lore and a possible outcome for our girls!
On Ash side, The 3C is heavily inspired by the way Inscryption's handles the camera:
The game features a rich story-stelling experience and offers the opportunity to unlock multiple endings, from your traditional happy-end to much darker resolutions, while also including decades old classics of visual novels such as cheesy pickup lines and quirky references. Throughout its different possibilities, “...And we both became static” explores themes of loneliness, trauma, communication within a relationship, sexuality, and gender dynamics!
We wanted to create something unique and that we would actually be proud of, which is why we opted for a blend of different styles, from stop-motion to low-poly 3D models.
This allows us to produce a truly interesting game that experiments with both the story and the art of the project.
As a consequence of this process, we will not be able to release the game before April 1st, but you can see a short glimpse of what’s coming in the available teaser.
We’re a small independent group of queer people from France, feel free to follow and support our project !
